What is CIRIS?

CIRIS stands for Cayman Islands Regulatory Intelligence System, which comprises two unique and exciting products. The first of these is Law and Administrative Procedures (LAP). LAP enables Masters and Officers serving on Cayman Islands ships to undergo an examination to demonstrate proficiency in Cayman Islands Laws and Procedures. The second product of CIRIS is Regulatory Intelligence, which includes a variety of important information to support the operation of vessels flying the Cayman Islands Flag.

Access is for those who have outstanding exams or current subscriptions.

LAW AND ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES (LAP)

LAP is a secure subscriber area of the MACI website designed to allow Masters and Officers serving on Cayman Islands ships to demonstrate proficiency in Cayman Islands Laws and Procedures. It essentially serves two purposes.

The first is to allow management companies and training providers to easily register to become Examination Centres to administer the LAP examination.

The second is for Master and Officer Candidates undertake the examination under supervision at a registered Examination Centre. Upon successful completion of the exam, the Candidate will be able to print a Certificate which can be used to support their application for a Cayman Islands Endorsement.

The LAP Manual can be fouund here, questions and answers can be found here.

REGULATORY INTELLIGENCE

Regulatory Intelligence is a secure subscriber area of the Maritime Authority (MACI) website. This secure area contains access to hyperlinked, searchable versions of maritime Laws and Regulations of the Cayman Islands currently in force and access to other useful and vital information, such as Cayman Islands Shipping Notices, online forms, the LAP Manual, LAP Q&A Document, and Shipmaster’s and Yachtmaster’s Guides.

MACI highly recommends that all shipowners register for this service to ensure they have access to the most up-to-date material, much of which is required to be carried under Cayman Islands Laws and Regulations. This will also avoid the need to carry hardcopies of such documents onboard and onshore. The fee for this service is US$200 for a single user one-year subscription.

The information will be kept fully up-to-date. The documents will be updated whenever regulatory changes or other amendments to any of the documents take place. Please login on a regular basis to ensure you have access to the most up-to-date information.
