Alfred L. Powery, MACI Director — Global Commercial Services, has played a vital role in the development and growth of the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry and the transition to the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands (MACI), established in 2005. His work ethic and constant attention to detail has enabled him to gain a reputation throughout the industry and amongst the organisation’s clientele, both locally and internationally, as being very knowledgeable and reliable.
His remit includes overall review of vessel registration in all its aspects, in addition to oversight of MACI’s global representatives in the USA, London, Greece, Monaco, Singapore, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Mr. Powery is also responsible for MACI Consulting, consulting services ranging from advice on maritime administration structures and their financial implications, to maritime legal services, conference organisation and training.
Mr. Powery was previously Divisional Director – Registration, Human Resources and Administration, 2005 – 2008. As such, he had overall responsibility for all HR and Administrative functions and activities of MACI.
Mr. Powery first joined the Cayman Islands Government in 1989 where he worked in the Companies Registry as a Higher Executive Officer until 1993. Within this time, he dealt with the collection of revenue.
In 1993, he rose through the ranks to Assistant Registrar of Shipping until 2002 when he was appointed by His Excellency the Governor as the Registrar of Shipping for the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry and Shipping Master.
Mr. Powery is a member of the MACI Executive Management Group, MACI’s Management Committee, and the Maritime Sector Consultative Committee, as well as an ex–officio member of the Cayman Islands Shipowners’ Advisory Council – Ships Committee.
