A Message from the CEO
As CEO of the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands I am firmly convinced that our people resources are what leads the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry to be the preeminent flag of choice for the world's prestigious mega-yachts, and a fleet of other vessels as well. We pride ourselves on our cadre of skilled maritime professionals across the spectrum of disciplines, and I'm pleased that we have recently brought two new stellar examples on board. Surveyor Duncan Currie (profiled elsewhere in this issue of the CISR Globe) is posted to Headquarters in Grand Cayman; whilst Martin Chu (also profiled herewith) becomes Cayman's first Shipping Registry representative in Hong Kong, rounding out our presence in the influential Asian marketplace by joining Yoshinori Uno in Tokyo, and Evelyn Soon in Singapore. I am extremely pleased to have both of them join us in our global organisation.
We are pleased to welcome on to our historic Register two more MOL (Japan) craft, the PCTC (Pure car and truck carriers), Amethyst Ace (capacity 6,400 units), sister ship to the Cayman-flagged Aquarmarine Ace (profiled in Issue #1), and the Salvia Ace (4,100 units), and we thank "Nori" Uno for his dedication and service to this important fleet. And here, at Headquarters (as well, of course, as at our satellite offices) we make every attempt to encourage the further development of our already talented staff, as you can see from an article within these pages which highlights recent educational achievements by those here at home.
We allow time off for "study leave" and otherwise underwrite enhanced learning opportunities for all employees, as well as bringing on board student interns, and encourage other young Caymanians through scholarship initiatives.
Of course, we continue to take the message of CISR's excellence in client services ever farther afield, exhibiting again this biennial year at Posidonia, the world's largest shipping industry expo, held in Athens, the shipping mecca of the Mediterranean. Additionally, our seasoned maritime professionals are constantly traversing the globe to serve our clients' needs wherever in the world they might arise.
As the world faces difficult economic challenges, we here at MACI/CISR headquarters in Grand Cayman remain confident of our unequaled ability to serve our valued customers in a prompt, efficient, and highly competent manner, consistently providing good value for money.
Joel Walton, CEO of the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands
