Carving and Marking

Issue of a Carving and Making Note: Once Cayman has received all Forms, Supporting Documentation, IMO Number if applicable, relevant Fees, and the survey and audit requirements are met, Cayman then assigns an Official Number to the ship and issues to the Owner (or their Authorised or Representative Persons) a Carving and Marking Note and assigns the signal letters for the Ship’s Radio Station call sign.

For questions regarding Carving and Marking contact the Registration section.

Any of these parties may then arrange for the vessel to be first permanently marked and then inspected (normally by a Class Surveyor) for verification with the Carving and Marking Note. If satisfied, the Surveyor will sign the Note and return it to Cayman.

A facsimile of the Carving and Marking Note will be accepted pending receipt of the original within 7 days as agreed in an Undertaking given in Form CISR 856 Section 6 (III). Alternatively, an Undertaking given in Form CISR 856 Section 6 (II) to return the certified Note within 21 days may be provided to Cayman.

Note: The Official Number, Net Tonnage (for vessels 24 metres and over) or Register Tonnage (for vessels under 24 metres) and IMO Number if applicable, must be carved onto a plate permanently affixed to the vessel's main beam or other main structural member, where it is clearly visible and the vessel’s Name marked on each of its bows and both Name and Port of Registry (George Town) marked on the vessel’s stern. On pleasure yachts, the vessel's Name is not required to be marked on each of the bows as a marking on the vessel’s stern is sufficient.
