Responsibilities

  1. Vessel and mortgage registration, advisory and marine survey and audit services;
  2. The overall responsibility for implementing marine pollution prevention, maritime safety and security, and seafarers’ welfare obligations’ under international Conventions and Codes and under Cayman legislation for Cayman-flagged vessels wherever they may be and foreign-flagged vessels whilst they are in Cayman waters;
  3. The responsibility for the implementation of Cayman’s obligations under the Caribbean Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control for foreign-flagged vessels entering Cayman Islands ports;
  4. Marine Casualty investigation activities in relation to Cayman-flagged vessels wherever they may be or foreign-flagged ships where a marine accident occurs in Cayman waters;
  5. The responsibility for national maritime policy formulation, the provision of advice on maritime-related matters, and the development of Cayman’s maritime-related legislation;
  6. The responsibility to represent Cayman at international for a and to protect its maritime interests; and
  7. The responsibility to facilitate the development of the Cayman Islands as an international maritime centre.
