Conventions

Key international maritime conventions ratified by the UK and extended to Cayman: 2005.

IMO Conventions

Of the various IMO Conventions that have been extended to the Cayman Islands, the following are the main ones -

SOLAS - International Convention on the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974 as amended (includes the International Safety Management Code (ISM) and the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS)).

COLREG - Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972 as amended.

MARPOL - International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973 as modified by the Protocol of 1978 relating thereto.

LC - Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter, 1972 as amended.

Brussels Collision Convention - International Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules of Law respecting Collisions between Vessels, 1910.

Brussels Arrest Convention - International Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules relating to the Arrest of Sea-going Ships, Brussels, 10 May 1952.

The following main ILO Conventions are complied with through provisions contaconventionsined in Cayman Islands Law -

  • C092 Accommodation of Crews Convention (Revised), 1949.
  • C133 Accommodation of Crews (Supplementary Provisions) Convention, 1970.
  • C147 Merchant Shipping (Minimum Standards) Convention, 1976.
  • C164 Health Protection and Medical Care Convention, 1987.
  • C166 Repatriation of Seafarers Convention (Revised), 1987.
  • C178 Labour Inspection (Seafarers) Convention, 1996.
  • C180 Seafarers’ Hours of Work and the Manning of Ships Convention, 1996.
