Proficiency as Ship Security Officer
Current Cayman Islands policy requires that Ship Security Officers have successfully completed training which has been approved by a STCW “White List” Government as meeting the requirements of the IMO Model Course 3.19 for Ship Security Officers. If a Ship Security Officer holding an existing certificate is unable to obtain a STCW Certificate of Proficiency from their original training provider the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry may be able to issue the Certificate of Proficiency. Such certificates can only be issued after 01 January 2008 to applicants, which must be able to demonstrate:
- Proof of at least six months sea service onboard a Cayman Islands ship in the previous three years.
- Proof of satisfactory completion of a Ship Security Officer training course.
- Evidence that the ship security training course completed was approved by a STCW “White List” Government prior to the training being undertaken.
